Annalise Durand was born to a poor fisherman and his wife in the winter of 1984. Breaux Bridge, Louisiana isn't a normal person's idea of a "small town", but it has that feel of everyone knowing everyone. The Durand's were known for their involvement in the local baptist church, and Anna's mother, Cecilia's, baked goods floating around. Preston, her father, was often out of town for weeks at a time for fishing jobs and other construction type jobs, so growing up it was often just Anna and her mother.
Anna was an only child and it showed. She was used to doing her own thing, but did crave attention from those around her. She was extremely bright and clever-- and never one to hold her tongue. From a young age she was interested in law from watching reruns of Law and Order with her mother, and it started her off on the idea that a woman could make something of herself. Her parents were more traditional, especially her father, but after seeing how invested she was in the idea of getting an education, eventually fell in line with the idea of Anna being a smart and educated young woman. He even purchased her first copy of To Kill a Mockingbird for her, and she keeps it in her work desk (or did, until she recently gifted it to someone). She spent the majority of her school time studying rather than socializing. But Anna fell in love with cooking, football, and even learned to play chess in her spare time.
Everything changed when Anna was sixteen and her mother went missing. She left for school one day, and when she got home her mother was just gone. The police were convinced she had abandoned Preston and Anna, as there was no sigh of forced entry or a struggle. The case wasn't closed until the beginning of 2015, when Cecilia's remains were finally found. After her mother went missing, Anna couldn't bear the idea of being home anymore. Her father could barely take care of himself, let alone her and his strict sister had come from Alabama to try and help out. But all her and Anna did was clash. So one night, she took the money from her father's wallet and left. Got on a bus to find her uncle in Mississippi and never looked back. At seventeen, Anna was on her own.
She enrolled in Ole Miss, and began doing not-so-respectable things to make ends meet. Dealing, stealing, stripping were her go-to jobs. But they paid the bills and allowed her the freedom to study and attend classes. With online classes, Anna made her way up and down the East Coast, from West Virginia (her very least favorite place ever), to Michigan, to Arkansas-- Anna's been everywhere. Things changed for the better when Anna met a charming cajun thief who taught her many of the things that put food on her table, and Sebastien Lebeau became a permanent (yet forever on/off) fixture in her life. When she finally decided on law school in Boston, it was his strip club that she would work at and the money she made through odd jobs here and there for him that would pay her tuition, help her acquire her downpayment for her house, and allow her to buy those Louboutins she always wanted.
After law school, Anna worked for a private firm before heading to the District Attorney's office. When Seb entered her life once more, trouble was bound to follow and after making a deal under the table with a doctor from a case, she was suspended. Annoyed, she quit and started working at Diederich Motor Company as a corporate lawyer. This was the best and worst decision she has ever made. After solidifying a relationship with Seb, a weekend of passion~ with her boss would be a breaking point for them and a turning point for Anna. Never really sure of why she did it, there was always a lingering in the back of her head of "why?". Seb and Anna broke up in the summer of 2015... never really the type of people to stay around each other too long, over the last ten years they had changed too much to really be the settling type. She's entered some type of complicated relationship type thing with her boss, Max Diederich, but she's not rushing anything anymore. Her main focus is on her career, her cat, and her shoe collection.
